Making baby hats for the hospital

Starting December 1st, I started making baby hats that I could take to the hospital during the Christmas season.
When I was in young womens, one of the projects I chose wad making baby hats for premie babies bc a lot of times they are too tiny for regular clothes and have to wear baby doll clothes or clothes that don't fit.
A lady that was in our ward and worked w these premies at the nearby hospital told me about this. I made a bunch of tiny baby hats for them.
This year, Chris came w me to the store and helped me pick out yarn to make the hats. I already had the supplies (i used a knitting circle thing for the hats), and made cute hats, many of which were Christmasy colors. I started to work on them everyday, but I couldn't keep that up the whole month but I ended up still making some really cute hats.
Chris' bday is Christmas Eve and he helped me drop them off to a hospital, I went to the top floor and delivered them to the Nicu place for these tiny little babies. The ladies thought they were so cute and asked for my info so they could write me a letter. I told them it was ok bc I didn't make them to get a letter or anything out of it.
When leaving I noticed some dads or other family members leaving with worried looks on
their faces, I was just glad I could make something cute for those little babies born around christmas time to keep them warm.

Stocking stuffer idea

This year we did something fun with putting stockings together for each other. We got an idea from a friend, but we went to Target and for 20 minutes we spent $20 on fun little things.
It was more difficult than it seemed but it was fun going around finding things for each other. Sometimes we would pass each other our see them coming and take a quick detor. Ha it was a lot of fun.

Married 100 days

So this last week we've been married 100 days! To celebrate we tried to take 100 pics thoughout the day. It ended up being less than that but it was fun to do and to be w each other.
I can't believe it has been that long! It's so much fun spending all my time w my best friend.

10 Days TO Christmas

We've been doing our kind deeds throughout the day, it's made my mind very conscious of how many kinds things we might do during the day but don't noticed. Being in a mindset to serve and be kind to others makes me realize how little things really can brighten someone's day.

IDEAS: Saying hi to everyone, talking or sitting by someone who is by themselves or who you might not usually talk to, opening a door, writing a thank you note, taking inititive with a situation, calling someone you haven't talked with in a while, making the bed for roommate or spouse, drop extra goodies at someone's place, do something for the needy.

There are so many things we can do and do not take a lot of time. Being conscious about our surroundings and serving others this week has definitely helped widen my perspective in showing even more love to others. You should try it out too, writing it down and talking about it with my spouse has been even better.

Christmas song of the day: I don't know why, but I've heard the "Little Drummer Boy" song a billion times already this season. Ha, when I was little I thought the song was in French because I could never understand the song.

Something that has touched me when I have listened to the words, is that the Drummer Boy was "a poor boy too" and didn't have a gift to bring so he played his drums. Whether we are rich or poor we need to realize we always have something to give whether it be time, money, goodies, or our talents. Sometimes we don't realize how our talents can touch or inspire the lives of others.

Like the little drummer boy we can use our talents to worship and show love toward the Savior as we understand and share them with others.

12 days TO Christmas

Yeah yeah I know the title is different but Chris and I are doing "12 days of Christmas" for the last 12 days until the big day. We are doing small acts of service throughout these 12 days to focus on others.
We have some ideas for the next few days, some we will just do small acts of kindness toward eachother or family or whoever.
Christmas story of the day: "A Bright Shining Star" by President Monson during the Christmas devo.

"There is no better time than now, this very Christmas season, for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by Jesus the Christ. Let it be a time that lights the eyes of children and puts laughter on their lips. Let it be a time for lifting the lives of those who live in loneliness. Let it be a time for calling our families together, for feelings a closeness to those who are near to us and a closeness also to those who are absent.

Let it be a time of prayers for peace, for the preservation of free principles, and for the protection of those who are far from us. Let it be a time of peace because we have found peace in His teachings.

Most of all, let it be a time to remember the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the Wise Men."

Holiday Centerpiece

It makes me mad these pictures do the table no justice. Everything glows when we have the Christmas tree on and the chandelier. Here is the China that we got from our wedding. It is beautiful! It's white with these silver designs that you can see really well in this lighting.
The 'holly' stuff in the middle of the plate I will wrap around napkins, I found them at Hobby Lobby 50cents.

Our table with the China and centerpiece I made! I also took out our silver silverware. Potterybarn napkins on sale.
I found this wreath thing at Hobby Lobby 50% off, it really is a large candleholder. I placed it around the glass vase and filled it with silver pinecones and berries. Dang so hard to see.

Our chandelier! I absolutely love it

Ta da!!! Ready for a yummy Christmas time dinner

Temple Square Lights

This year we went up to Salt Lake to see the lights. We went early to go to Pottery Barn where the SLC location had 10% off the whole store, and since we registered there, we get an additional 10% off of everything, so I definitely wanted to take up the opportunity.
Before we went up, Chris said we should make it into a whole date night and go somewhere for dinner. We were going to Outback with a giftcard, but there wasn’t any by us so we went to Chili’s.

We started going to Temple Square and of course it started raining. We grabbed some hot chocolate to warm us up, but then we drove around FOREVER to find a parking spot. We went around, saw one of those horse-drawn carriages back up into a car, and around and finally found a spot.

I don’t think we were supposed to park there, so we ran into the grounds and did the quickest few laps around the temple because we didn’t want to get a ticket, and that wet. Hahah. Fun date night adventure. Here are some of our pictures from this year:

Making Ornaments Part 1

So I found out I say the word 'ornament' wrong. Chris finally told me, and I never knew it. Anyway this year I'm working on some ornaments. I found these at Pottery Barn for $8 and decided to make my own with the Cricut.

POTTERY BARN ORNAMENT

PEARSON ORNAMENTS I'VE MADE SO FAR

I got found a small thing of black vinyl I already had. I used my Cricut to cut out these letter P and put them on the glass bulbs I got 50% off at Hobby Lobby for $3.

Got some red vinyl and cut out different sayings for Christmas that are hanging on our tree

Gingerbread Houses

Each Christmas the Pearsons make Gingerbread houses. I made one last year and we combined our efforts this year which was good because we shaved off a few hours.

Our move… Frosted Mini Wheats for the roof. The original plan was that Chris would design the roof (he makes the best ones every year J ) and I would do the landscape, we were short of land so we combined efforts.

Rosette Wreaths

Natalie found a picture of this wreath online:

We decided to make our own and it turned out like this:
We bought the materials from Hobby Lobby. The wreath was $2.50, and we bought 1/8 yard strips of fabric (3 different kinds), and some beaded pearls which you can find in the floral section.
Next, we cut the fabric strips into pieces 3 inches by 20 inches. We then would wrap them to make rosettes.
We laid out the flowers then glued them with a hot glue gun. I then got pearls and wrapped them under the twigs and flowers. This is a close-up of my work. It was so much fun!

Black Friday Excitement

This year was well planned in Black Friday shopping. I did my research and planned the items I was looking for and the stores with the best deals.
Some of the stores I hit up:
  • Bed Bath and Beyond 20% off of every item in the store
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • Macy (great deal for shoes and coats)
  • DSW
  • Hollister 30% off everything in stores
  • Joann Fabrics

and many more. So worth it and I will definitely do it again next year. I know I saved around $300

Time to be Thankful

On Monday, Chris gave our Family Home Evening lesson about being thankful. As every FHE he gives, I loved hearing his testimony about everything he believes in and stands for. I'm grateful for such a great man who loves the Lord, loves this gospel, and loves me.
I'm grateful for the gospel. I'm so glad that when we do place the Lord first in our lives, that we will become closer to the Lord and to each other. Placing our foundation upon the Lord before anything else (ourselves and everything) we can make it back to our Father in Heaven.
I'm grateful for family. I love my family and Chris' family and I'm so glad we now have our tiny family of Chris and I where our priority is first with each other. I'm grateful with my relationships with family and am glad I have a close relationship especially with my mom who I love so much. My family has been such a great example to me and my parents have raised me always on the gospel and doing what is right.
I'm grateful for standards. My parents have always taught me about choosing the right, to be honest, and on the for strength of youth in being modest, chaste, kind etc. Those values I apply to my everyday life thanks to my parents who taught me from when I was young. They used to teach me that most important life decisions were decided by an individual by the time they were age 14. I'm glad my parents didn't just wait to teach us about standards and values when we were older, but would teach us while we were young.
I'm grateful for scriptures and our living prophet. We have these scriptures to lead and guide us, the most correct book on earth. In Nephi it says that there will be nothing that will be put in the scriptures that won't be for our benefit. I'm grateful for General Conference where we can listen to modern day scriptures from our leaders and especially from our prophet today: President Monson. He leads and guides us and will never lead us astray. He is a true man of God.
Again I'm so grateful for my amazing husband! He is always there for me. He loves me so much and is always so trustworthy, I always know that I can depend on him. Again he loves this gospel and we want to teach and raise our children on these principles that we have learned in our families. He loves the temple, he has a testimony, we have already set great habits from scripture studying, prayer, with saving money, FHE etc. We work things out, we work together as a team. I'm so glad I'm married to such a great man! We have such a bright future ahead and I'm excited to see what life has in store.
We are so blessed!!! It's a great time to be alive and to members of the church. Of course there is and will be challenges, but with the Lord we can accomplish anything and always be happy!!!

Football: Freshman year till now

2010: Even though it's the last home football game, at least we made it. It was freezing that day. We parked and I wanted to tailgate and of course saw Cosmo the Cougar!
We watched the game with Coleman and Brandon. More pictures of us freezing. I was well prepared though and didn't even touch two other coats and a BYU blanket.

Good in the World

When I went online this morning I was touched by a story of a homeless man who found $3300 in a backpack he had found and RETURNED IT. I'm sure he was someone really in need of that money, but he decided to be honest and realized that wasn't his.
I thought of this story and how someone's honesty and integrity really counts when you think no one is looking. Even when we think we are not being watched or if something might benefit us more than another person, remember integrity is what counts like this homeless man illustrated.
